12/08/2020 21:24 / Salvador Pacheco

Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.- In the midst of suffocating heat and under the interim command of Marcelo Michel Leaño, Chivas managed a 2-0 win over FC Juarez thanks to goals from Jose Juan Macias & Jesus Angulo this Wednesday night at Estadio Olimpico Benito Juarez during matchday 4 of Guard1anes 2020.

During the first minutes, Guadalajara showed greater ambition and good offensive but imprecise game play. It wasn’t until the 10th minute Chivas’ first chance appeared when Isaac Brizuela’s tried a header from the centre of the 6-yard box which went off target. It was followed by another chance for El Chiverío in the 20th minute as ‘Tiba’ Sepulveda tried a good header, which however, strayed to the left.

El Rebaño Sagrado continued to show offensive power as in the 23rd minute ‘Cone’ unleashed a left-footed rocket that unfortunately went slightly to the left after a cross from Ponce. FC Juarez answered back in the 31st minute when Flavio Santos header was brilliantly saved by ‘Toño’ Rodriguez. Chivas’ best chance in the first half arrived in the 33rd minute when Jesus ‘Chapito’ Sanchez lobbed a beautiful cross straight towards a waiting Uriel Antuna’s whose header glanced off the crossbar.

The climax of the first half came in the 43rd minute when Dario Lezcano’s shot was blocked by Jesus Molina’s hand and the referee awarded a penalty kick, fortunately for El Chíverio the PK call was overturned following a VAR review.

The second half started with an all-in Chivas. It didn’t take the Rojiblanco squad long to create danger as in 50th minute Jesus Angulo unleashed a rocket from the right side of the box which was saved by Ivan Vazquez. At last, Chivas’ long-awaited first goal in Guard1anes 2020 came in the 55th minute as JJ cashed in from then penalty spot after both the referee and VAR awarded a PK following a foul on Macias himself.

El Rebaño doubled their lead in the 65th minute when Fernando Beltran delivered a through pass to Uriel Antuna who performed a fantastic run up the left side to dribble past a Juarez defender and assist 'Canelo' who calmly sent it home with his left foot to put the game to rest.

During the last minutes of the game, Guadalajara played calmly and prioritized ball possession and counterattacking. Chivas’ first W of the season was overshadowed when Alexis Vega was sent off after a second yellow card in the 93rd minute. The all-Mexican team will face San Luis next Saturday at Estadio Akron during Matchweek 5 of Guard1anes 2020.
