A scoreless draw for Chivas at the border

04/10/2020 22:55 / Omar González

Tijuana, B.C.- El Rebaño Sagrado managed to get one on-the-road point during matcweek 13 of Guard1anes 2020 after a nil-nil tie with Xolos de Tijuana at Estadio Caliente.

From the very first minute, Chivas went all-in with high pressure and ball possession. In the 2nd minute, ‘JJ’ Macías unleashed a rocket that Orozco deflected towards a corner kick. Then in minute 9, Xolos got their first chance with a shot from outside with a timely block by ‘Pollo’ Briseño. A couple of minutes later, Jesús Angulo tried his luck with a long-distance shot that Orozco saved.

As time passed, both Guadalajara & Xolos lost track of the ball and the game pace plummeted until minute 27 when Chivas fired up another long-range attempt; nonetheless, Alexis Vega’s shot went wide. It was Xolos who had the last chance of the first half, specifically, in the 35th minute as Rivera took a close-range shot that made Raúl Gudiño show his great reflexes with a brilliant save.

The Second half was a display of choppy gameplay from both sides along with imprecision and lack of accuracy. Chivas tried but could not get the guys on top to get involved. In the 53rd minute, ‘Gudi’ closed down the angle brilliantly for the striker of Xolos. Then, in the 72nd minute, came the best chance for ‘El Chiverío’ thanks to a set-piece which Villalpando crossed to Briseño who headed it straight to Mier who missed the ball and could not break Xolos’ lockdown, finally in minute 82 a fantastic cross from Uriel Antuna to Vega whose header did not find the back of the net.

In the end, neither side was able to break through and get the winning goal. Up next for ‘El Chiverío’ is a FIFA international break before ‘El Clasico Tapatío’ next October 17th, at Estadio Akron.
