Chivas will try to get its fifth straight win in el Clasico Tapatio

13/10/2020 14:00 / Fernando Giaccardi

The oldest rivalry in Mexican football will add another chapter to its history. A very significant chapter for Guadalajara, as they will be seeking a fifth straight victory in el Clásico Tapatío this Saturday night at Estadio Akron during matchweek 14 of Guard1anes 2020. Let’s take a look at the 4 previous Rojiblanco victories against our uncomfortable neighbors.

Clausura 2020 / Matchweek 9 / Atlas 1-2 Guadalajara
El Rebaño Sagrado handled the match at will, thanks to pragmatic and effective football, and got a 1-2 win over the city rival at Estadio Jalisco. Captain Jesús Molina took advantage of a loose ball and got the lockdown breaker in minute 18 and despite being one man down after Alexis Vega was sent off in the 34th minute, Los Rojiblancos doubled their lead in minute 42 when 'Chapo' squeezed a ball to 'Cone' who dribbled past the defenders and assisted Macías, who fired a shot into the back of the net. Mauricio Cuero was able to pull one back for Atlas in minute 84.

Apertura 2019 / Matchweek 9 / Guadalajara 1-0 Atlas
Chivas displayed offensive gameplay along with high-intensity pressure and got an unquestioned win over Zorros at Estadio Akron, thanks to an awesome screamer from Alexis Vega, who in minute 62 unleashed a rocket straight into the upper right corner past Camilo Vargas, a piece of art good enough to get el Chiverío 3 points.

Clausura 2019 / Matchweek 7 / Guadalajara 3-0 Atlas
Chivas were very effective on the attack front and dominated at will during the 90 minutes. Atlas showed no resistance and Alexis Vega got a flashy hat trick. Chivas got off to a quick start. In the 8th minute, Carlos Cisneros blocked a pass, a loose ball found its way to Alexis whose chip shot ended up in the back of the net. Chivas increased their lead 14 minutes later after Isaac Brizuela squeezed a ball towards Vega and he, despite Irving Zurita's ferocious pressure, took a right-footed shot past José Hernández. The hero of the night got his hat-trick in the 60th minute, when 'Cone' ran down the right, passed it to Dieter Villalpando who assisted precisely to Alexis who rifled a shot into the far post.

Apertura 2018 / Matchweek 7 / Atlas 0-1 Guadalajara
Amid an intense downpour during the first minutes, the Rojiblanco squad adjusted itself to the field conditions at Estadio Jalisco. The sole goal of the game arrived in minute 64 passing through Orbelín Pineda's feet, who from outside the box unleashed a screamer that caused passions to run high in the stadium of Avenida Independencia.

A Rojiblanco Factoid
- If we consider friendly games between Chivas and Atlas during the same time span, then we must add a couple of wins to the streak; first, a preseason game in which 'El Rebaño' thrashed Atlas 0-5 at Estadio Jalisco and the 'Copa por México' game prior to Guard1anes 2020, which Guadalajara won 2-0 Estadio Akron.
