Chivas gets back to back wins and now the playoffs are on the horizon

19/04/2022 23:15 / Javier Quezada

Once again and after a long time, Chivas and its people where in tune at the Akron Stadium. The red and white fans played a decisive role for El Rebaño to defeat Xolos 2-1 on Tuesday night, in MatchWeek 15’s clash of the Clause 2022 season. The game included plenty of excitement and Chivas came back on the scoreboard, which made the team move momentarily up to seventh place overall with 20 points.

The Rebaño launched themselves forward in the first few minutes and quickly generated the first danger, as, at minute 4, Ángel Zaldívar was supported by Roberto Alvarado, who controlled in two stages and then shot, but off target, and at minute 6, Carlos Cisneros put in a cross to the far post that Cristian Calderón came up just short of connecting. At minute 11, 'Wacho' Jiménez flew in from a corner kick to save a point-blank header by Vladimir Loroña, but in the following corner, he could do nothing to prevent Hiram Mier from pushing the ball into his own goal. Seven minutes later, Montecinos tried his luck from half distance, but his shot went wide of the target.

From then on, the first half's actions were red and white. At 33', 'Chelo' sent 'Canelo' down the flank, who then played to 'Checo' Flores, who cut back to his marker and then shot across, the goalkeeper spat the ball away and the defense killed the play just before 'Piojo' pushed it into the goal. Five minutes later, the Chiverío equalized the score after a series of rebounds inside the box, as the defense, in their eagerness to clear the ball, gave it to 'Canelo', who shot it with power and sent it into the upper right-hand corner. At 40', 'Charal' stole the ball in the midfield and escaped at full speed. When he reached the end line, he put in a powerful header that 'Chicote' connected with the inside of his right foot, but it went over the goal. Wacho' was at his best again at 43', when he pulled back to save a right-footed shot by Ferreyra with one hand.

In the second half, Chivas pulled out all the stops and, at 52', gave the first warning, when 'Piojo' opened up the flank for 'Chicote', who hit a first-time shot, but with more location than power. The turnaround was consummated at 54' with a goal from another game; Pável Pérez took the ball in the midfield and drove safely until he reached the midfield, where he found a gap between 3 defenders and from there he struck a left-footed cross into the upper right-hand corner. Ten minutes later, Alvarado put in a lofted cross that crossed the entire area and Calderón shot as it came, but his powerful shot went just wide of the goalkeeper's goal.

The Borderers shook off their dominance at 70' with a Mauro Manotas shot that went wide of the goal and at 75', 'Wacho' won a one-on-one with Vladimir Loroña. Seven minutes later, Manotas fired a shot that crashed into the crossbar. In the last play of the match, Jiménez got one more, after he put on his hero's cape to save another shot from Manotas in the air. Guadalajara's next match will be against Pumas this Saturday at 9 p.m. at the Akron Stadium.
