From Bad to Worse Chivas lost at home to Atlético San Luis.

09/07/2022 21:31 / Javier Quezada

Guadalajara's compass is still lost in the Apertura 2022 and have a lot of room for improvement in order to bounce back immediately and not let any more points slip away. Although they controlled the ball for a good part of the match, the red-and-white team lacked ideas, clarity and punch up front, which, added to a defensive laxity, has cost them a defeat against Atlético San Luis by the minimum difference this Saturday night at the Akron, in the second match of matchday two.

The Rebaño started knocking on the door early in the match, Ángel Zaldívar gave the ball inside the box to Alexis Vega, who, with a movement of the hip, shook off his marker and shot, but without power. At 2', Cristian Calderón went on the attack and tried his luck from mid-range, but Barovero leaned back to save the shot. The visitors responded at 14' through the Hernández-Waller duo, but the latter's shot went wide. Five minutes later, Alexis pulled the trigger from the edge of the area, but the ball went just wide.

At 38', 'Chelo' recovered the ball on the flank and connected with 'Piojo', who immediately played to set up Vega inside the area, but the defense disarmed Alexis just before he shot at the goalkeeper. At 43', 'Piojo' appeared again to set up 'Chelo', who took a violent shot from the edge of the area, but Barovero saved the ball with a feline reaction. Two minutes later, Alexis put in a cross into the heart of the area, where 'Piojo' appeared to finish with a spectacular scissor kick that went wide of the goal. In the last play of the first half, the visitors took the lead, after Waller left Mier out of the way and finished with a lob in front of 'Wacho' Jiménez.

The visitors extended their lead as soon as the match resumed, after Abel Hernández appeared to send the ball home from a corner kick, but the goal was disallowed because, after reviewing the play in the VAR, the referee realized that the player from Potosí had stepped on Mier's foot, which prevented him from jumping to avoid the shot. At 74', Alan Mozo put in a cross that Barovero came out to cut off just before Alexis could push it into the net.

At 87', Mozo crossed to the far post, but Chicote's header went over the crossbar. At 90'+6', 'Chicote' let the equalizer slip away incredibly, after he appeared unmarked inside the box following a rebound from Vega's shot, but his shot went dramatically wide. Guadalajara's next match will be on Saturday, July 16 against Santos in La Comarca Lagunera, where they have to win.
