Santiago Ormeño signs with Chivas

18/07/2022 17:43 / Club Deportivo Guadalajara

Chivas has added Santiago Ormeño to its list of available attacking options for the Apertura 2022, he has been added to its ranks to contribute with the offensive work in the face of the various losses that el Rebaño has had in that area. Here are some details so you can get to know the lanky attacker in depth.

Santiago is 28 years old, was born in Mexico City and plays at center forward. He made his Liga MX debut on Day 13 of the 2018 Apertura.

Where has he played?
Ormeño made his first foray into the maximum circuit in 2018, when he signed for Puebla. He was then loaned for 6 months to Cusco FC in Peru, ended his loan and returned to La Franja, a team in which he was a fundamental piece for Nicolás Larcamón, scoring 18 goals and gave 1 assist in 2,862 minutes played.

Where was he at previously?
His outstanding performance in the Angelópolis took him to León, where he has been since then until now that he dons the red-and-white jersey. With the Emeralds he won the Leagues Cup in 2021.

How can he fit into Ricardo Cadena's system?
By playing with two strikers, this attacker could become a great tool to unload direct play, because his physique helps him win many duels from behind and in turn, he could be used to free up his attacking partner. In addition, Ormeño is a good finisher, mainly with his head, so Guadalajara would gain a good offensive resource in the air.

What is his experience at National Team level?
Santiago Ormeño has dual nationality, he is Mexican by birth and has a Peruvian passport, which is why he represents the Inca team, where he has had the opportunity to play important matches: 11 games, 6 in Copa América, 4 in World Cup qualifying and 1 friendly.

With this signing does Chivas break its tradition of using only Mexican players?
NO, the official statutes of Club Deportivo Guadalajara state the following: The second paragraph of the Fifth Clause of said statutes establishes that in Chivas "only Mexicans by birth can play", that is, people born in national territory or with a parent of Mexican nationality, in accordance with Article 30 of the Mexican Political Constitution.

Santiago Ormeño was born in Mexico City and is therefore Mexican by birth. However, the striker, having dual nationality and a Peruvian passport, decided to play for the Peruvian National Team and Chivas will not ask him to waive that right.

Important background:
Chivas, under the management of Jorge Vergara (q.e.p.d.), decided to expand the self-restriction of players who could be part of the team and issued a statement on November 7, 2012 mentioning, "At Guadalajara, only and exclusively Mexican players and those who choose to play with the Mexican National Team will be admitted."

Ten years later and after several sessions of analysis and consensus with the sports and legal areas of the institution, Club Deportivo Guadalajara decided to leave without effect such statement which IS NOT PART OF THE CLUB'S BYLAWS.

In this way and WITHOUT ATTACKING THE TRADITION under which this team was conceived, Chivas only has and will only have players who are Mexican by birth, regardless of the fact that they choose to play for a National Team other than the Mexican one, by virtue of their dual citizenship.
