This is Paunovic's coaching staff at Chivas

07/11/2022 11:28 / Club Deportivo Guadalajara

Club Deportivo Guadalajara is a great challenge for Veljko Paunovic, which is why he is going to need all the support he can get from highly qualified people who will complement the intentions of the new red and white coach. Below we will let you know a bit more about the assistants who will be helping the Rebaño's coach in prepping the for the Clausura 2023 tournament.

3 is the magic number... 3 are the assistants that 'Pauno' will have at Guadalajara. Who are they? None other than Claudio Arzeno, Nuno Miguel Gomes and Quinton Fortune.

Let's start with Claudio Arzeno, who was born in Argentina and just recently turned 52. He was a professional soccer player from 1990 to 2005, and then began construction on his path as a coach. His last adventure as a player was with Las Palmas in Spain's Segunda B, so he took advantage of his knowledge of the Iberian lands to begin his journey as a strategist in 2012.

Here comes a fundamental part of his story, in recent days there has been a lot of talk about Veljko Paunovic's "lack of knowledge" of La Liga, but what do you know? Arzeno worked in Mexican soccer from 2017 to 2019, as Diego Alonso's assistant. So it is clear to us that both Fernando Hierro and Paunovic have left nothing to chance.

His role within the Serbian tactician's team will be defensive coordinator, which implies the work of all players in the phases without ball, in addition to the work in controlled ball starts.

What will he bring to the coaching staff?
- He is a very creative coach in terms of forming off the ball, which will undoubtedly add to Paunovic's inventiveness.

- His knowledge of the environment and the players who are in Liga MX are a plus. He worked at Pachuca and Rayados, and between them he won 1 Liga title and 2 Concacaf titles, so he is very familiar with the environment.

- Thinking about possible reinforcements, his eye and criteria will also be important to help 'Pauno' and Hierro, as he has a very fresh context of the current market.

Now let's talk about Nuno Miguel Gomes. The same who was Paunovic's assistant at Reading and Chicago Fire, so there is a great understanding between the two coaches. Gomes was born in Portugal, is 44 years old and is also a former professional footballer.

In the Chivas coaching staff, Nuno will be the coordinator of all the offensive work, so much of the work in attacking phases will be under his command.

What will he contribute to 'Pauno's' style of play?
- He will polish technical aspects with all the players in general, especially with those who play in the last third of the field and who have the task of finishing plays.

- He will be an important part in generating mechanisms that will help us to be a more creative team from three-quarters of the field to the front.

Last but not least, we have Quinton Fortune, who also collaborated with 'Pauno' at Reading. His role within the coaching staff will be very much focused on individual player improvement, which will directly impact collective performance. Let's not forget that Hierro has emphasized how important it is to improve each of the pieces along the way, so there is a lot of congruence in this decision.

In addition, Fortune, who in his playing career played for Manchester United and Atletico Madrid, in addition to playing in the 1998 and 2002 World Cups with the South African national team, will be in charge of fixed tactics. This is something that has become very important worldwide, as it is becoming more and more common for teams to do damage in this way, and a resource that Chivas needs to strengthen.

We can only wish good luck to all the members of Veljko Paunovic's coaching staff. We are certain that they will do an excellent job and take the Rebaño Sagrado to where its 40 million fans always want to see it.
