Chivas U18s played with authority against Tigres, who arrived as favorites due to their position as overall runner-up in the competition, and played a great match to come away with two valuable points from their visit to Zuazua on Matchday 9 of the Clausura 2023, as they drew 1-1 in regular time and won in the penalty shootout 4-5.
With this result, El Rebaño regained some ground in the standings, reaching 12 points to place 14th overall, but for the moment they have caught up with three other teams with the same number of points.
The goals
- Guadalajara opened the scoring half an hour into the game, after Gibrán Ortiz received a long ball from his own half, took advantage of the goalkeeper coming out of his area to try to block him, and pumped the ball into the goal.
- The home side equalized at 55' through Isac Galván, who fired a cross-shot from the edge of the area that beat David Nungaray's spectacular save.

And how did the U-20 team fare?
El Rebaño U-20s fought hard to try to display their style of play, but were unable to subdue Tigres, who took advantage of a couple of distractions by the Red and White defense in the second half of the match and saw their unbeaten run in the Clausura 2023 come to an end with a 2-0 defeat this Saturday morning at the Zuazua facilities, in Matchday 9 activity.
Fortunately for the red-and-white cause, arch-rivals Atlas and América drew against each other this week and missed the opportunity to steal the lead in the competition, so Chivas will remain at the top of the standings for at least one more week with 20 points.
The goals
- The home side opened the scoring at 58', after Fernando González Romero took advantage of a rebound inside the six-yard box to simply push the ball into the back of the net.
- Just 3 minutes later, UANL put the final numbers on the scoreboard, when Diego Sánchez sent a cross to the far post, where Fernando González Peña controlled the ball and then set up Isaías Galván, who shot past Erick Montiel into the right-hand corner of the net.
