For 50 years, Estadio Jalisco was the venue for the Clásico de México in Guadalajara, but in 2011, Mexico's greatest football rivalry was played for the first time in a venue that was worthy of the importance of the match that divides our country in soccer terms.
It was April 10 when the then new home of Chivas got dressed up to receive the first clash between the biggest rivals in Liga MX, on matchday 13 of the 2011 Clausura. El Rebaño went into the historic match with a 4-match unbeaten streak, two of them consecutive victories, while the Águilas had a very uneven record.
The trend was soon reflected in the scoreboard, as at 27', Guadalajara opened the scoreboard via 'Cubo' Torres, who anticipated Diego Cervantes in the area to beat Guillermo Ochoa with a header sent into the back of the net.
The duel took on the tinges of a rout in the second half, thanks to a double by Marco Fabián, who, at 72', pulled a goal out of his hat with a left-footed shot into the left corner and, seven minutes later, put the definitive numbers on the board with a header from an Omar Arellano left-footed service from the left sideline.
