Chivas' X-Ray of the Clásico Tapatío

03/04/2023 15:33 / Enrique Noriega

The 3-3 draw in the Clásico Tapatío left a bittersweet taste for Guadalajara, after being up on the scoreboard on a couple of occasions, they were unable to crystallize the advantage. However, there are some very noteworthy aspects in their performance on Matchday 13 and we will tell you about them below.

General analysis

During the first half, Chivas showed great attack, however, during some periods it was difficult for them to progress with the ball. Atlas managed to push the Rebaño Sagrado in their own field, but this does not mean that they suffered. You know, having the ball is not always the same as being dangerous. The red-and-black team sent many balls into the area, but were unable to do any damage, until the first goal came, which generated tension at the defensive level.

When Guadalajara had the ball, they were unable to threaten the spaces with the players who were out of position, making it difficult to get out of their own half. This changed in the second half, as Chivas showed greater fluency with and without the ball.

The best of Chivas

Four names stand out here: Alexis Vega, Roberto Alvarado, Fernando Beltrán and Alan Mozo. Undoubtedly, these players were vital in the Clasico Tapatio.

Vega returned from his injury in the best way. Since day 1, his impact on the left wing has been noticeable, as he is a dominant dribbler and with his shot he scored 1 goal and came close to a brace several times, especially on a direct free kick that the goalkeeper saved from the top corner. Alvarado gave a total player's match, since from the start of the game he showed what he had. He scored the first goal after a huge play and generated the third goal, dribbling past 2 players from the red and blacks.

For his part, Beltrán conditioned Atlético's midfield with his dribbling to break the pressure, and his short dribbling made the Red and Blacks suffer, as shown in the action in which he eliminated 3 opponents but Camilo saved Cisneros' shot. Mozo was boss in defensive duels. Obviously it is difficult to win them all, but without the ball he was strong and in attack he completed several dribbles.

What are we left with?

Beyond the draw, which moved the Rebaño up to sixth place with 22 points and three points behind Toluca in second place, Chivas has a clear identity. Nobody wants to leave units on the road, however, after each blow received, Veljko Paunovic's Guadalajara has been able to overcome and find goal opportunities. It is a team that has a stamp on the pressure and the use of the inside players.

The coaching staff and the squad will continue with their intense work so that the Rebaño.
