One of the pillars that sustains the greatness of Club Guadalajara are those players who, with their performances and love for the colors, have made history with our institution and on a day like today, 8 years ago, Omar Bravo earned the right to become a living legend with Chivas by reaching 123 goals as a red and white player and surpassing the record that for decades had belonged to 'Chava' Reyes.
On August 12, 2015, the Sinaloan-born striker stepped onto the field at the Akron Stadium aware that he was very close to achieving the long-awaited feat and with an outstanding performance, which included a brace of his own, he led the Rebaño to a 2-0 victory over Morelia and thus wrote his name in golden letters in Guadalajara's history by breaking the record that belonged to Don Salvador for 48 years.
That night, 'Chepo' de la Torre allowed the fans to give their idol a standing ovation when he was substituted at the 76th minute and, at the end of the match, the board gave him the ball with which he scored the 123rd goal and a piece of the goal net in which he scored it, after which he dedicated a few words of thanks to everyone present, to his family and to all the people who accompanied him in his career up to that historic moment.
Omar Bravo was formed in the #CanteraRojiblanca, where he always showed his exceptional conditions as an attacker, either as a reference in the area or starting from the wings. One of his main virtues was the ability he always showed when fighting for aerial balls to the far post, despite not being very tall, his great leaping ability and the timing he mastered allowed him to surprise defenders on a recurring basis.
