Chivas suffers painful defeat in the Clásico de Mexico

17/09/2023 00:44 / Javier Quezada

Guadalajara had a night not to remember. Although the match was even at times, there never was any clarity in attack and, added to the high effectiveness of their fierce rivals in front of goal, they ended up losing 4-0 this Saturday night at the Azteca Stadium, in Matchday 8 of the Apertura 2023 Tournament.

The goals:
- The fierce rival opened the scoring at 21', when Brian Rodríguez found a small space in the red-and-white backline to shoot a right-footed shot that went in at the base of the left post.
- At 36', the home side extended their lead with a long-range shot by Diego Valdés, which 'Wacho' came up just short of deflecting.
- At 65', Valdés made it 3-0 with a shot from the front that ended up in the net.
- At 79', Alejandro Zendejas appeared in the box to connect with a powerful header and simply pushed the ball into the goal.

The danger:
- At 9' 'Wacho' Jiménez leaned to his right to contain a low shot by Jonathan Dos Santos.
- At 14', 'Chicote' made a change of play that left 'Nene' with an advantage inside the box, but his cross shot was deflected by the defense.
- At 40', 'Piojo' shook off the mark with a feint and then shot from the edge of the area, but without the desired power.
- At 45', Piojo's free kick went just over the goal.
- At 47', the referee disallowed a Chivas goal for offside.
- At 49', 'Nene' put in a cross to the second post that 'Chicote' controlled in two stages and then shot, but off target.
- At 59', 'Wacho' made a diving save to deflect a shot to the corner.
- At 70', 'Piojo' took a powerful line that Malagón managed to save with his fingernails.
- At 78', 'Nene' put in a cross to the heart of the area, where Ronaldo Cisneros appeared to shoot with his head, but just wide.
