Guadalajara played a match bu note, they played good soccer and showed the intensity required in a Liguilla game to take the lead on aggregate after defeating Pumas 1-0 on Thursday night at the Akron Stadium, in the first leg of the Quarter-Finals of the Apertura 2023.
Erick Gutiérrez showed his best performance since joining El Rebaño and came close to crowning his performance with a goal, but was denied on two occasions. In addition, Fernando Beltrán and Ricardo Marín were a real headache for the university defense, who found their hero in goalkeeper Julio González. Chivas will now go to finish the job this Sunday afternoon at the #CapitalRojiblanca, where a draw or a win will give them a ticket to the Liga MX Semifinals.
The goals
- El Rebaño Sagrado moved the scoreboard at 42', after 'Chicote' Calderón left opponents in his wake until he reached the final third, where he was supported by 'Nene' Beltrán in the center of the field, who controlled the ball with a powerful right-footed shot that ended up in the back of the net.
The dangerous ones
- At 4', the Pollo extended a throw-in for Ricardo Marín to finish at the far post, but the goalkeeper controlled it.
- At minute 11, 'Nene' put in a cross that the goalkeeper blocked with two fists, just before 'Guti' headed in.
- At 13', 'Piojo' controlled a change of play and gave the ball to 'Nene', who took a first-time cross from the front, but the ball went just wide.
- At 23' Julio González saved a shot from Rubén González on the goal line that lifted the crowd out of their seats.
- At 29', Marín headed a corner kick, but without the desired power.
- At 38', 'Guti' came out between two markers and projected 'Cone' down the flank, who realized that 'Nene' was coming through the center unmarked and gave it to him, but his mid-range shot was deflected to the corner by the goalkeeper.
- At 40', 'Guti' tried a shot behind the defenders that left 'Piojo' alone in front of the goalkeeper and, noticing that González was ahead of him, he took the ball, but it crashed into the crossbar.
- At 44', Julio González miraculously saved a point-blank shot by Marín to prevent Chivas's second goal.
- At 60', 'Nene' played a delayed touch for 'Guti', who shot the ball as it came from outside the area, but it hit the crossbar.
- At 84' Alexis Vega received the ball in the left corner of the area, cut back to his marker and took a line that knocked the paint off the base of the post.
