Mexico's best youth academy did it again! Chivas conquered yet another Liga MX category, as this Saturday they defeated Tigres away from home in the Grand Final of the Apertura 2023 U-23 category.
The game went into overtime and it was there where the Rebaño showed maturity and good soccer, which allowed them to score the two goals that sealed the category title.
This trophy represents a lot for Guadalajara, as it means the crowning of an extraordinary semester of work in our Basic Forces; it is also a firm demonstration that player training and triumph can go hand in hand.
What the Chivas U-23 championship left behind:
- The 19 most recent finals in which the #CanteraRojiblanca has played at least one game at the Akron, it has won them. Yes, the last time Chivas lost a final at Subs was in the 2011 Clausura, when the U17s lost 6-4 on aggregate.
- Chivas was the team with the lowest average age in the league (19.29) during the regular tournament. That's right, they were crowned with an average age of 19 in an Under 23 category.
- This is Chivas' sixth U-20/23 title. The most recent was in the Guard1anes 2020.
- La Cantera Rojiblanca has been crowned twice at the Estadio Universitario. The first time was in the 2013 Clausura.
- Chivas won their 3 away games in the Liguilla. In total, they scored 8 goals and conceded only 2 playing away from home in the Fiesta Grande.
- Los Rojiblancos were the best offense in the tournament with 42 goals scored (including finals).
- Armando González was the scoring champion in the regular tournament with 13 goals; however, he also scored the most goals in the Liguilla with 5, for a total of 18.
- The 'Hormiga' alone scored more goals than 3 complete teams in the AP23.
- Only 4 players have been scoring and League champions in the same tournament. Armando González is one of them.
