10 curiosities of the Chivas U23 Title

As you well know, Chivas U-23s were crowned champions against Tigres last weekend. However, there are several things we haven't talked about enough, as Armando González, who scored the title-winning goal at the Volcán, was the Apertura 2023 scoring champion.

The last time a player from the Cantera Rojiblanca was scoring champion was in the 2016 Apertura, when José Juan Macías won the title in the Under-17 category. You may be wondering what one thing has to do with the other, well, here we tell you.

1. José Juan Macías was the champion goal scorer with 13 goals, Armando González was also the top scorer with the same number of goals.

2. Both scorers did it in an Apertura tournament, Macías in 2016 and González in 2023.

3. José Juan scored 5 goals in the final stage, Armando scored the same number of goals in the final stage.

4. Both strikers scored the title-winning goal in their respective Finals. JJ' against Monterrey and 'Hormiga' against Tigres.

5. In those tournaments, Chivas was crowned as the away team in the Sultana del Norte.

6. In both final series, the first leg ended in a scoreless draw and was played at the Akron.

7. In the regular phase of AP16, Chivas drew with the team that would later become their rival in the Grand Final, and in AP23, Chiverío also went through the same situation.
