Guadalajara was intelligent, and intense and looked for the win at all times in the Clásico de México, which ended scoreless on Saturday night at the Akron Stadium, on matchday 12 of the Clausura 2024. With this result, the Rebaño remains in 11th place in the overall standings with 16 points.
Chivas showed their mettle to overcome an Azulcrema team that had a few chances in the first half, but as the clock ticked down, they were able to tilt the field in their favor and had several clear goal-scoring opportunities, as well as pinning the Águilas back in their area in the final stretch of the match.
The red-and-white team will not be active in Liga MX next week due to the FIFA Day break, although they will face Atlas in the Clásico Tapatío to be held on Sunday, March 24 at BMO Field in Los Angeles, California. Chivas' next league game will be against Rayados on Saturday, March 31 at the Steel Giant.
Dangerous plays
-At 6', 'Tala' Rangel was huge in the red-and-white goal, making a precise low save to deny Julián Quiñones' shot.
-At 24', 'Chicharito' and all his experience came to the fore: he came to life, stole a delayed pass that was looking for Malagón to turn around and find the Blue and Whites' far post, which the goalkeeper saved with his work.
-At 29', 'Tala' appeared again, a giant in the one-on-one against Henry Martín, who wanted to be alone in front of the goal, but Rangel's glove prevented him from doing so.
-It was at 35' that 'Tala' confirmed his great night, with a providential handball on the goal line to save Martín's counter-attack after the rebound off the crossbar of an American player.
-Just at the start of the second half, 'Cone' broke down the right and served diagonally to 'Chicharito', who unleashed a first-time left-footed shot just over the opponent's goal.
-In 57', Cade Cowell received an exquisite long service that put him in front of goal. When he tried to score, a Yellow and Whites defender prevented his shot from going into the goal.
-At 60', Cowell again raised his hand after a ball recovered by Alan Mozo. Guadalajara's 16-footer looked for Malagón's near post but hit the outside of the net.
-At 80', Erick Gutiérrez's long-range left-footed shot worried the rival defense, but the ball went wide of the goal.
