This Sunday marked the beginning of Mexico's U-20 path towards the World Cup of the category, which will be played in Chile in 2025. El Tri defeated the Haitian national team by a convincing score of 4-0 at the Sergio León Chávez Stadium in Irapuato, Guanajuato.
Some players from the Guadalajara youth academy participated in the match, such as Yael Padilla, Diego Ochoa and Francisco Méndez, who started as starters against the Haitian team, while Brandon Téllez remained on the bench.
Ochoa and Méndez were in charge of the central defense of the U-20 Tri and they performed perfectly, as the Mexican team managed to keep a clean sheet. Meanwhile, Yael Padilla managed to score a goal in the 11th minute of the match, thanks to an excellent run down the left flank, which ended with a cross-shot.
Mexico started off on the right foot and is currently the leader of Group C, which it shares with Guatemala, Haiti and Panama. El Tri's next opponent is Guatemala and they will meet next Wednesday, July 24.
