In addition to collective achievements, the history of a team of the caliber of Deportivo Guadalajara is based on the players who leave a legacy during their time at the institution. Even more so when we are talking about a player who, for 21 uninterrupted years, defended the Red-and-White jersey never even considering the option of wearing any other.
We are, of course, talking about Juan 'Bigotón' Jasso, a true legend of the Campeonísimo who was born on a day like today, but in 1926. From a very young age, he practiced soccer on the plains of the Perla Tapatía, to later begin his successful career with the Chivas Rayadas.
He made his official debut on March 17, 1946 against San Sebastián de León, which marked the first of his 430 appearances with the Red-and-White jersey. His versatility playing either at the back or in the midfield made him a valuable element in one of the most prolific eras of the Rebaño Sagrado.
The 'Bigotón' won 15 titles during his time as a player, seven in the League, one in the Mexican Cup, six in the Champion of Champions and one in the Concacaf. His brilliant career as a Chivas player came to an end on Day 14 of the 1966-1967 season, when he said goodbye on Sunday, October 23, 1966, in a 3-0 win against Ciudad Madero, a result in which he contributed the second goal by scoring a penalty in the 32nd minute.
