Gabriel Milito’s Guadalajara reaffirmed their strong run of form by convincingly beating Mazatlán FC 2-0 on Saturday night at Estadio AKRON, in Matchday 13. With this result, Chivas secured their fourth consecutive win in the Apertura 2025 and are now on the brink of a direct spot in the playoffs, sitting in seventh place with 20 points.
The match was controlled by Chivas from the start. In the first half, El Rebaño created constant danger. Armando González was a key player, scoring an early goal that was disallowed by VAR, but later redeemed himself by converting a penalty. The striker, nicknamed “La Hormiga,” now has seven goals in the tournament and has scored in back-to-back games.
In the second half, El Equipo Más Popular de México managed their lead with long periods of possession and a well-organized defense that allowed them to keep a clean sheet. Their next challenge comes this Wednesday, October 22, when they visit Querétaro—the first of two matches next week, as they’ll then face their city rivals on Saturday in a new edition of El Clásico Tapatío.
Goals:
- At the 33rd minute, Armando “Hormiga” González converted a penalty with a shot into the top right corner, completely deceiving the goalkeeper.
- At the 40th minute, Bryan “Cotorro” González timed his run perfectly to finish with a header at the back post after an excellent cross from Richard Ledezma.
Key Chances:
- At the 9th minute, VAR disallowed a goal from Armando González due to a handball after he controlled a through ball from Santiago Sandoval and finished with a cross-shot past Gutiérrez.
- At the 17th minute, Richard Ledezma struck a powerful shot from outside the box after a corner clearance, but the goalkeeper deflected it with his fingertips.
-At the 22nd minute, Bryan “Cotorro” González shot across goal toward the far post, but it went just wide.
- At the 42nd minute, González appeared again with a near-post shot, but the keeper held on to it.
- At the 54th minute, “Hormiga” took a shot from the right toward the near post, but the keeper made the save to avoid a bigger scoreline.
