What is the Leagues Cup competition format?
- The tournament is designed to fuel the sporting rivalry between clubs from both countries, so interleague matchups are guaranteed through the Quarterfinals, ensuring MLS vs Liga MX clashes in every round prior to the Semifinals.
- There is a points system by league: while clubs face teams from the opposite league on the field, MLS and Liga MX teams will each have their own Leagues Cup standings table. The four teams that collect the most points in their respective league standings will advance to the Knockout Rounds.
- There are no draws. If a First Round match ends level, each club receives one point; a penalty shootout will then take place, and the winner will earn an additional point.
- In the Knockout Rounds, if a match is tied after regulation time, the winner will be decided by a penalty shootout.
- The 2026 Leagues Cup awards three spots in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup (champion, runner-up, and third place).
- Officiating for the matches will be appointed by Concacaf, and the tournament will use VAR technology.
