“We’ve earned the right to be at the top, but there’s still a long way to go” – Gabriel Milito

On Wednesday night, Guadalajara delivered a true footballing masterclass against León, once again showcasing their strong form both collectively and individually. The performance allowed the Rebaño to maintain their perfect record at home and reclaim the top spot in the standings.

Gabriel Milito shared his analysis of the match and the keys behind his team’s consistency, which has been crucial in staying on track toward their objectives. Here’s what he had to say after the game.

Milito’s take on the match

  • The team came out with a strong desire to play good football and secure the win. The performance was very good; it was an almost perfect match. In the first half, we had chances to go into the break with a bigger lead, and in the second half, we were much more clinical.

  • Scoring the second goal early in the second half gave us a lot of confidence. After going a man up, the players were able to make the difference and we were effective. Even though we missed some chances, we never stopped attacking, which is what we aim to do. We didn’t drop our intensity—that’s our intention regardless of the opponent: to maintain this style of play.

Being top of the table doesn’t win titles

  • The team is earning its results and the points we have so far, but there is still a long road ahead. We must maintain this level to finish with the highest number of points possible.

  • We train and play to win. Winning gives you points, and if that puts you at the top, that’s great. But finishing first doesn’t give you a title. It’s important for playoff advantages, but what matters most to me is that the team maintains this level and behavior.

Focus shifts to Rayados

  • We need to go to Monterrey with the same mindset. They have important players and it will be a demanding test. I focus on taking it one game at a time and not losing the humility and passion required to play—this group understands that very well.

Trust in the Mexican player

  • From the moment I considered the opportunity to coach Chivas, I accepted it believing in the players already at the club. I strongly believe in the quality of the Mexican player—that’s why I’m here. When Mexican players step onto the field with conviction, their level rises.

  • The quality is throughout the squad. Our job is to help that talent be expressed at the highest level through work, confidence, and above all, belief.
