Chivas fought until the final whistle, but fell to Toluca in their AP26 opener

18/07/2026 21:52 / Melissa Hernández

El Guadalajara began its Apertura 2026 campaign with a 2-0 defeat against Toluca at Estadio AKRON in the Matchday 1 clash.

Although El Rebaño made a strong start and looked to impose its style from the opening minutes, the Red Devils took the lead before halftime from the penalty spot. In the second half, Chivas played a large portion of the match with a man down, but never stopped searching for the opposition’s goal.

Despite the adversity, Gabriel Milito’s side remained in the fight until the final whistle, creating several chances that ultimately could not be reflected on the scoreboard.

Now, El Rebaño will have to turn the page and focus on its next challenge. Next Saturday, Chivas will return to the Fortaleza Rojiblanca to host Juárez in Matchday 2 of the Apertura 2026, aiming to earn its first three points of the tournament.
