Chivas Let Victory Slip Away in El Clásico de México

19/09/2026 23:51 / Melissa Hernández

Playing with intensity and fighting until the final minute, Chivas looked for the finishing touch but ultimately let the victory slip away, drawing 2-2 in El Clásico de México. With the point earned, Chivas moved to 18 points and remain second in the standings.

The Rojiblancos stepped onto the pitch ready to give everything they had and opened the scoring before halftime through Bryan González, before extending their lead through Ricardo Marín early in the second half. However, the control and character shown by the Rebaño were not enough to prevent América from cutting the deficit and eventually finding the equalizer.

Guadalajara’s next match will be at Estadio AKRON, where they will host Querétaro on Saturday, September 26 at 5:07 PM for Matchday 10 of Apertura 2026.

The Goals

- Goal for Guadalajara! What a goal from ‘Cotorro’! In the 31st minute, Omar Govea delivered a great cross into the box, finding Bryan González with a perfectly timed diving header that left Cota with no chance. The Rebaño takes the lead at the Azteca!

- The Rebaño gets a second! In the 46th minute, ‘Oso’ González sent a precise ball behind the defense, where Santiago Sandoval connected with a header. Cota made the initial save, but the rebound fell perfectly to Ricardo Marín, who made no mistake and fired the ball Pa’ la Jaula! 2-0 for Chivas.

- In the 70th minute, the home side got on the scoresheet through Miguel Borja.

- In the 73rd minute, Miguel Borja scored his second to level the match for the Azulcremas.

Dangerous Chances

Warning from Guadalajara! In the 19th minute, Chivas put together a great team move from their own half. After moving the ball quickly, Bryan González received it inside the box. ‘Cotorro’ shook off his marker and unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that forced Cota into action to keep the Rebaño from opening the scoring.

‘Piojo’ nearly gets one in the 25th! Roberto Alvarado received the ball outside the box and unleashed a powerful effort toward goal, forcing the América goalkeeper to make a full-stretch save and turn it behind for a corner.

On the ensuing play, Chivas executed a set-piece routine that once again ended at the feet of ‘Piojo’, who wasted no time in firing a dangerous shot toward goal. The defense deflected it behind for another corner.

In the 40th minute, following a brilliant individual play from Santiago Sandoval, the ball fell to Omar Govea, who joined the attack and fired a shot that went just wide of the far post.

‘Piojo’ again! In that same minute, Roberto Alvarado appeared once more with another well-directed effort that Cota managed to parry away.

In the 75th minute, Santiago Sandoval sent a shot toward the opponent’s goal after Cota came off his line, but the ball went just wide of the right post.
