Why Has the Gigante de Acero Become a Home Away From Home for Chivas?

21/10/2026 15:05 / Sara Ochoa

El Rebaño Sagrado knows what it takes to come out on top at the Gigante de Acero and make it a second home. This Saturday, Chivas will return to Monterrey for Matchday 14 of the Apertura 2026, aiming to make its history count, extend its dominance over Rayados, and prove that its strong away form in the Apertura 2026 is no coincidence.

Guadalajara has plenty of reasons to look forward to another red-and-white night in Monterrey. In fact, Chivas’ recent record at Rayados’ home ground has made it a favorable venue for the team. Since the stadium opened in August 2015, Estadio BBVA has witnessed seven Chivas victories, three draws, and just two defeats in the Rebaño’s 12 visits, across Liga MX and Copa MX competitions.

Furthermore, El Rebaño has shown that it knows how to find the back of the net in Monterrey, scoring at least once in 11 of those 12 matches and tallying 22 goals at the Gigante de Acero. This impressive record is complemented by Guadalajara’s current away form in the Apertura 2026. The team managed by Gabriel Milito is the only side yet to lose on the road this tournament, boasting a record of two wins and four draws away from home. Now, Chivas will look to extend that unbeaten streak and secure three more points when it visits Monterrey for Matchday 14.

Relive Chivas’ Most Recent Victory at the Gigante de Acero!

The most recent meeting came on March 21, 2026, when Guadalajara defeated Monterrey 3-2 on Matchday 12 of the Clausura 2026 in a display of clinical finishing, character, and personality.

That night, Armando González opened the scoring in the 18th minute, José Castillo doubled the lead in the 46th, and Bryan González netted Chivas’ third goal in the 55th minute. Although Rayados pulled one back late in the game and threatened to complete a comeback, Raúl ‘Tala’ Rangel became the hero by saving a penalty in the closing moments to secure all three points for El Rebaño Sagrado.

That victory added another chapter to Chivas’ history in Monterrey and confirmed that the Gigante de Acero is a venue where Guadalajara knows how to compete and win. This Saturday, the team will have another opportunity to prove it when it visits Rayados once again.
