Five years after his departure, we remember Don Jorge Vergara Madrigal (r.i.p.), a man whose actions transcended his business and sports merits. His human quality distinguished him from the rest, because his greatest virtue was that he always took the time to listen to anyone who sought him out and in return offered wise words and advice, with which he tried to change people's lives by sharing his experience.
Don Jorge was not only one of Mexico's most successful entrepreneurs, but also a disruptive and innovative leader who transformed every field he entered. As head of the most popular and beloved team in our country, his vision and leadership changed Mexican soccer forever, thanks to his ability to reinvent the spectacle and enrich the rivalries with the rest of the clubs, with his traditional bets, which always sought to benefit those most in need, in addition to the displays with which he rekindled the passion in the Rojiblanco team's duels.
With Omnilife, he positively transformed the lives of millions of people to whom he shared his vision of things and thanks to this he was able to venture into education, culture and sports. This is how he came to Club Guadalajara, because he was convinced that Mexicans are capable of accomplishing anything we set our minds to, and he always sought ways to fulfill his greatest desire: to turn the Rebaño Sagrado into the best team in the world.
One of his most emblematic legacies is the Akron Stadium, inaugurated in 2010, a symbol of modernity and vision for the future. With the main purpose of making it a home at the height of what Club Guadalajara represents, Don Jorge conceived it as a venue capable of hosting the biggest sporting events on the planet, including the FIFA World Cup, which it will host in 2026.
Thank you, Jorge, for giving us a vision as broad as your heart, your legacy remains among us, because with your example you taught us that with patience and salivita we have to fight to fulfill our dreams day in and day out.
